PLAYGROUND
PLAYGROUND is an international art publication produced in collaboration with collectives and publishing houses from Poland, Japan, and Taiwan: Hand Saw Press, Mulu Office, Oficyna Peryferie, Puresu de Tokyo, and Togu Riso Press. The publication was created in July 2025 in Tokyo during an intensive ten-day creative residency in Shibuya, and was printed in a limited edition of 300 copies using the RISO technique.
The book is a conceptual "playground"—a shared space for artistic exchange, dialogue, and experimentation. The central theme of the publication is "the world," interpreted from multiple cultural and artistic perspectives. It is divided into six chapters, encompassing, among other things, participatory works with audience participation, documentation of microworlds captured through a microscope, photographic records of everyday life in Shibuya, an artistic workbook engaging the viewer in drawing and textual activities, a series of critical-humorous graphics addressing the climate crisis, and a series of illustrations inspired by Tokyo's urban nature.
The authors of this publication are: Michał Chojecki (Oficyna Peryferie), Marta Tomiak and Daniel Gutowski (Togu Riso Press), Hikaru Takada (Puresu de Tokyo), Ryoko Ando and Shinsuke Kanno (Hand Saw Press), and Liu Chao-tze and Zhou Junsheng (Mulu Office). Chapters 1 and 3 also include work by participants of the Zine Festival Summer 2025.
The publication was published by Hand Saw Press, bound with steel archival clips, and is an example of international artistic collaboration, experimental publishing practices, and the application of RISO technology in the field of contemporary art and independent art publishing.
