DIY ZINE Workshops (formerly: "How to make a zine?")

This is our classic zine workshop for anyone who wants to enter the world of independent publishing and make their first zine themselves—regardless of experience.

Over two intensive days, you will learn about the entire process of creating a paper publication – from the idea, through the mock-up, to the finished edition.

When?

5-6.01.2026
Monday and Tuesday
Hours: 10:00-15:00

In the program:

• The history and idea of zines – where they came from, why they are important, what remains of them today.
• Forms and structure of publications – how to think about the format, layout, and rhythm of the page.
• Mockup - prototype - you will create a mockup-prototype of your zine yourself.
• Imposition and preparation for printing – how to manage the layout, page order and structure of the publication.
• Production – based on the mock-up, you will reproduce and sew your zine in a print run of approximately 20 copies on a black and white photocopier .

Workshop objective:

• showing that anyone can create publications – quickly, easily and with their own hands.
• transferring skills that will allow you to take action independently: from the idea, through the form, to the physical object (without complicated tools)

• You'll see what the DIY publishing process looks like - without complicated tools or software, but with a wealth of possibilities.
• You will leave with a ready-made publication and knowledge that you can immediately apply on your own.
• You will learn the artistic context of zines as a phenomenon of independent culture.

Workshop program

Day 1

10:00 – Welcome
10:15 –  Lecture - "The history and idea of zines"
11:30 –  Presentation and discussion of bookbinding forms
12:00 – Creating a sample zine: from mock-up to print
12:30 –  Own work on mockups
14:30 – Summary and discussion

Day 2

10:00 – Review of mockups and designs, Q&A
11:00 – Preparing the mock-up – manual imposition
12:00 – Production: Printing, folding and sewing
14:30 – Summary and discussion

The workshops take place at:

Periphery Outbuilding / Eastern Workshop,
Ul. Skoczylasa 8, Warsaw (Praga-Północ)

How much is?

We have two categories of tickets:

- NORMAL – standard workshop price: PLN 295 – for anyone whose economic conditions allow them to pay the full amount
- LOW INCOME — social ticket: PLN 195 – for people whose living conditions do not allow them to pay the full amount for the workshops.

The workshop price includes all necessary materials and tools, as well as paper and the cost of printing 20 copies of your zine in black and white photocopying.
